While it may seem uncomfortable, taking a cool shower or bath is a great way to lower your core body temperature. After coming out of the shower, you will feel refreshed and relaxed. You can also let the bathroom fan run after to draw hot air out of the house.

Windows that face the sun during the morning and through the afternoon can heat the house quickly. Keeping the blinds closed is a great way to avoid this, especially when you aren’t home. You can also consider installing blackout curtains to have better insulation in the house.

For rooms that aren’t in use, keep those doors closed to keep cool air confined to areas that are in use. Make sure those rooms don’t have vents or the vents are closed to make sure you aren’t wasting cold air!

Sleeping in breathable linens, such as cotton, is a great way to keep cool throughout the night. Look for sheets that have a low thread count. Higher thread counts have more weaving, so a lower thread count is more breathable. You can also buy breathable pajamas.

Box fans do a great job at keeping your house at a comfortable temperature. If temperatures are between 50 and 70 degrees during the morning and evening, then you can open windows on opposite sides of the house to create a cross-ventilation system. The outdoors will pull the hot air out of the house, leaving a breeze or cooler air. The box fan speeds up this process.
